Tesi di laurea triennale

Background

This dissertation is focused on the mechanical behaviour, with particular reference to shear strength, of concretes obtained by substituting part of the coarse aggregates with waste from the Constructuion and Demolition (C&D) of civil manufacts.

Details of the work

This study comprises laboratory testing of concrete samples, cubic and cylindrical, and RC joists. The application limits of the C&D aggregates in Italy, Europe and worldwide. A detailed study on concrete mix design using C&D aggregates is presented. In chapter 4 a literature review related to the shear behaviour of RC members is presented, with particular reference to the "Modified Compression Field Theory" by Frank J. Vecchio e Michael P. Collins. Finally, Finite Element models with the software "Response2000" are used to derive the behaviour of the joists in the 4-point bending test performed in the laboratory.

Principal results

This study allowed to identify specific behaviours that the classic MCFT theory is not able to accurately capture. This aspects might represent the basis for future developments in this research fiels.
